Ovacyte EQ&LA
AI-powered point-of-care parasitology analyzer for equine and ruminant species
OvaCyte™ Faecal Analyser is an automated, point-of-care system that uses digital analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and count intestinal parasite eggs and flukes across multiple host species.
Simple, smart and reliable: sample preparation takes less than 3 minutes, after which the whole process is fully automated, with no special technical training required.
Detection of additional parasites is in development. Reference study: Elghryani N. et al. (2020) — preliminary evaluation of a fully automated device (Telenostic) for rapid field diagnosis in cattle.
Advantages
Simple, smart and reliable
Sample preparation takes less than 3 minutes, after which the process is fully automated, requiring no special technical training.
Results in minutes
Results are displayed in real time on the device screen and, immediately after scanning, on the web application — including the scanned images.
AI-powered software
AI removes the need for manual microscopy, analyzing images against a library of over 1 million images and 150,000 tagged parasites.
How it works
- 1 The sample is prepared quickly (under 3 minutes) and loaded into a proprietary cassette.
- 2 The cassette is scanned with a high-performance microscope lens and camera, while AI analyzes the images.
- 3 Results are immediately available on the analyzer, laptop or phone.
- • Analysis takes between 5 minutes (standard scan, McMaster-equivalent sensitivity) and 15 minutes (extended scan, five times the sensitivity of McMaster).
- • Captured images are sent to the cloud, where AI compares every object in the image against the internal library; eggs and oocysts are tagged, counted and reported.
Technical specifications
Efficiency
| Testing time | From days (manual methods) down to just a few minutes |
|---|---|
| Accuracy | Image-recognition software that identifies the species and counts eggs or oocysts specifically |
Performance
| Coccidia | Significantly higher sensitivity than centrifugation and passive flotation methods |
|---|---|
| Hookworm, roundworm and whipworm | Sensitivity similar to the centrifugation method with 2 grams of feces |
| All parasite species | Significantly higher sensitivity than passive flotation |
